Choosing materials that age well

Most materials look their best on the day they are installed. We look for the ones that look better in twenty years.

A short list

Timber, stone, lime plaster, clay tiles and weathering steel. Each one changes colour and texture slowly, and each one can be repaired rather than replaced.

Fewer joints, fewer problems

Using fewer materials means fewer places where two of them meet. Those meeting points are where water gets in and where cracks start, so the house stays simpler to look after.
